Jesus heals a Blind Man

Healing

Reading - John 9: 1 - 41 (or 1-12)

Powerpoint presentation of the Gospel Story. 3.2mb

Kids Talk:

• Have you ever considered what it might be like to be blind all the time - Discuss
• (You could blind fold all the children while you do the talk so they can experience how difficult it would be to be blind)
• Just imagine how difficult it would be to ¶ watch TV
¶ play video games ¶ see what you are eating at the dinner table ¶ see the presents people give you for birthdays and christmas etc
• So when you are ill and something is wrong with you, where does Mum or Dad take you - Discuss
To the doctor or a specialist of course
• The man in today's story has been blind from birth.
• He would have seen his family
• How do you think he would have recognised them? - Discuss
• Yes, he would have used touch. Felt their faces, listened to the way they spoke etc
• So you can just imagine how excited this man was to at last be able to see after years and years of darkness.
• He would have hugged and hugged Jesus in his appreciation.
• Today, Jesus still makes miracles happen
• That is why many churches have healing services. They anoint sick people with special oil, the priest lays hand on the head of the person, praying with them asking Jesus to heal them.
• You and I have a wonderful friend in Jesus whom we can call on at any time for help.

Kids Church Activity:
Activity: To make a see through window hanging

1 Give each child a church and have them cut out the circle, then paper clip the pattern to the black construction paper.
2 Instruct the children to lay the sheets on a soft surface such as a scrap of carpet or some folded towels. Using a blunt wool needle, show how to poke holes through the pattern into the black paper, outlining the church. (Make sure the needle pokes all the way through.)
3 Have the children remove the white pattern sheet. They should cut out the black circle above the church doors.
4 Give each child a pre-cut transparency sheet. Show how to tape it to the back of the church, covering the cut out opening.
5. Allow the children to use a permanent marker to write the memory verse on the "window."
6 Encourage the children to take the picture home and hang it in a window so the light can shine through the holes
